3.5 Stars A quick, enjoyable read.I enjoyed the redemptive tone of Daniel, Coop's spirit, and the overall theme of independence - whether from the father and upbringing Daniel wanted to escape or the independence necessary for Coop to really live within his new circumstances. I haven't read the Robbie & Sam books, and while this stood on its own, there were enough threads that actually made me glad I hadn't read the other stories: mainly because Daniel sounds like he was a truly awful charac [...]

3.5 StarsI had high hopes after reading the blurb and was really looking forward to reading a gripping story of healing between two war vets. Instead, this was a quick, easy and pretty light read. I was left wanting more and feeling somewhat underwhelmed by the story. I haven't read the previous books in this series, and frankly, I'm glad for that, because I'm not sure that if I'd seen first hand what Daniel had been like as a teenager or witnessed the things he'd said and done to his uncle and [...]

An easy to read romance that skirts around the edges of what could have been an emotionally charged story. The main characters are very likeable, and the instant chemistry between them will appeal to readers who enjoy happy ever after stories tied up neatly with ribbon and a bow. I enjoyed Battle Born overall, but thought it failed to meet the expectations I'd formed after reading the blurb. There's definitely more fluff than substance between these pages.

Full review available at: optimummblog.wordpress/20I really enjoyed this companion book to the Robbie and Sam series. Battle Born was a very cute new adult book, and it was well written and nicely edited. I greatly enjoyed the storyline even though it only had light kissing and hand holding in it as opposed to the books that I am used to reading which is a little more hardcore.I found Franklin Cooper, aka Coop, and Daniel Messana to be flawed but lovable characters. Both served time in the Army [...]

I felt this one was an insta-love book. Coop knows Daniel has terrible internalized homophobia and untreated PTSD, not to mention that Daniel has psychological issues from previous books. Yet within a few days, Coop gets Daniel to accept kisses and hand holding. Oona is a seeing-eye dog, though referred to as a "service dog" in the book. She would be trained to do a lot for Coop, including navigating city streets. Coop was not using her for much. He would hold hands with Daniel, and hold Oona's [...]

Battle Born (Robbie & Sam #3) by Caitlin Ricci 3 starsM/M RomanceTriggers: IED injury, homophobiaI was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads. This was the second story that I’ve read in this series. While I really liked the first one, this was somewhat disappointing. Daniel has just returned from the army and while he has learned a lot about the world outside of him and his father, I felt that he was still so immature in his view. I did like that he was able to grow more abou [...]

    7. The Novel Approach Reviews

Caitlin Ricci is a real hit-or-miss author for me. I’ve read several of her books that I really loved, and others I haven’t. This was one of the better ones. I loved the first book in the Robbie and Sam series, but the second underwhelmed me, so I wasn’t sure what I would think of this one. Add the fact that it was about Daniel, and I really was concerned.Daniel was a complete and total ass to Robbie and Sam in the other books. So much so that I couldn’t imagine his redemption. Well, Ric [...]

If I had to really describe this book then I would say this is a book about fighting ones fears. Everyone has a different fear and for some they let them fears rule their lives and the way they live. But that is not necessarily a good thing, especially when it makes you unhappy and makes you hide from everyone, including your self. This is book three in the Robbie and Sam series but this book is more about Robbie's older brother Daniel. Daniel went in to the military at the age of 18 and has not [...]

Got about 40 pages in and stopped. Wasn't in the right mindset for a tale of lost souls, and a clear gay for you storyline.
