Could a true princess really not feel a pea under several mattresses? I thought about that for several months before I began to write Princess and the Pea. And I came to realize that no--no she wouldn't feel a silly pea under a pile of mattresses, however, the queen would definitely put her through some tests. I really enjoyed writing this book. A princess finally old enough to travel on her own--and everything wrong that could happen does. I love Kyra's heart. I love her courage. And I love her [...]

I didn't like this story as much as her other works. I found it too dark, a bit macabre even. Something was missing I give it 3.5 stars. It was okay but I felt it could have been better.

This book is cute, fun, heartbreaking, and sweet all at once. An enjoyable read, although I do wish we had a little more to the ending. It felt a little abrupt. I really would have liked to read about their reunion after the two years was up, and especially his reaction to seeing her reach that goal she had set for herself. Those would have been sweet moments to have more details for.

I am new to Jenni James' work (in fact, the first one I read was earlier today so this is only the second novella by her that I've read). I had her frog prince retelling novella on my kindle app for months and I finally read it today. I enjoyed it and I loved the fairytale world her story wove, so I immediately looked into reading another Jenni James book. And this one was even better! Princess Kyra is traveling to a kingdom by the sea because she is hoping to secure an alliance with the prince [...]

Jenni James had done it again!!! She has an amazing way of taking a fairy tale we all love and retelling it in a way that makes me fall in love with it all over again. I can't wait to read her next retelling.

Delightful reselling of the fairytale, the princess and the pea. Loved the deeper message of beauty and worth being more than outer appearance.
