      funny and somehow essential introduction (foreword)+nice pick from pomo texts of 60s+good company of the authors - Barth, Pynchon, Heller, Nabokov, Donleavy and the author of foreword himself (shame on him, he has no meekness but a lot of pride), etc. the book is priceless as a literary fact but almost useless for academic study, alas, alas

      I found this book in my Catholic high school library when I was sixteen, and my mind was blown away. This book probably influenced what I thought was funny for years to come.

      really good collection. my favorite here is the classic 'twirling at ole miss' by terry southern. book is a wonderful introduction to the style.
