This is a new to me author, so I took a chance on this. I liked it. There were a few things I had issues with, but nothing too major. **the hidden spoilers are pretty spoiler-y, so read at your own risk. I wouldn't advise it though.**As a parent, I have no idea how Phillip was able to live life. Well, I guess he really wasn't actually living, but he was making do. If I lost my girls there just are no words. My heart ACHED for Phillip. I would have liked to have seen more couple time between Vanc [...]

Wow this is one book that I couldn't put down. You really do feel for Phillip, as he was gay, but rather than be true to his inner feelings, he decided he should try and go for the straight life, which included getting married. He managed this for years, until he realised he could no longer live that way. After the divorce, things were amicable, until someone saw him holding hands with another man, and when his wife found out she took his children away from him.Six years later, and he still hasn [...]

Okay. So, when I read the prologue, I found myself thinking 'Really?! Why do people do this to themselves?!' But then, without it, we wouldn't have had the rest of the story, so, I let it pass *smiles.Anyway, on with the review. One of the best things I liked about this was the fact that one of the MCs was a twin. It worked quite well in this story, and the way it was dealt with in a little 'mix-up' was quite satisfying.Even though I found myself almost having a 'roll my eyes' moment with the me [...]

This was a good story but I felt like a got the cliff notes version. Things didn't happen in the way I expected and that is a good thing. Right? They meet and become workout buddies then it is a month later. They decide to give it a go and become a couple and quickly declare love and all that jazz. It didn't feel real. I didn't get why it happened. It was too much telling and not enough showing. I think I would have accepted all the things that happened in the book involving Vance and Philip's r [...]

A good story but it kind of failed as a romance for me. We see Phillip dither. They meet. Phillip runs away. Finally, a date. Then the car crash. Then the phone call. Then kids. This is not a fluffy-type story, I needed to see them building a strong relationship before facing the return of Phillip's kids and dealing with their emotional and physical trauma. But instead it was insta-love. They spend hardly any time together, then Vance is badly injured and as soon as he is back home, Phillips kid [...]

*copy provided by author/publisher via Eyes On Books in exchange for an honest review*I knew this book was going to wreck havoc to my heart as soon as I read the blurb and boy, if I wasn’t right! The book starts when Phillip is about to get married to a woman, Janice, even while being fully aware that he’s gay, just to please his parents. His twin brother, Robert, asks him not to do it, and still, Phillip goes through with it. Fast forward four years and Janice and Phillip are divorced and sh [...]

Phillip Jorgensen tried his best to live the life that others wanted him to live. He married, had children and played the straight role. However, one day he just couldn't live a lie any longer. His wife was crushed, but agreed to a divorce. When her suspicions about Phillip's sexuality were confirmed, she packed up their two kids and disappeared. For six years Phillip has been doing everything in his power to find his precious children, forgoing any sort of personal pleasures (like relationships [...]

A Joyfully Jay review. 3.75 starsThis was a fast-paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. With a cast of main and secondary characters, the author brings to life this story that pulled at my heart strings. While I connected primarily with Phillip as his despair sucked me in from the very first pages, each of the characters is well developed and contributes to the story line.Yet, it felt as if the story was rushed. Phillip and Vance are gym buddies, spend a w [...]

This was a beautiful, touching, gripping story! I loved Phillip and Vance and how they came to be together, the premise of them meeting at the gym and how everything else would unfold, from Phillip revealing his past, and introducing his new man to his twin brother's family, to the very way Renee Stevens chose to end this novel. Children being kidnapped by one of their parents happens more often than you'd think and how the matter was handled in the book was brilliant. We have a gay man trying t [...]

I had never read a book by this author before, I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I love the family dynamic, even outside of the kids!! I would definitely read another year this author if she comes out with more like this. I do not read paranormal so I am hoping she writes more like this!

    12. Daniel

Well written and very emotive. Had tears of sadness and joy in equal parts whilst reading this. I was happy with the way to story concluded but want more. I can't wait to see what Renee Stevens releases next. I would gladly recommend her work; just not to read at work or you may end crying.

Vance is a trooper and not given enough credit in the blurb - I would like to have gotten into his head more because he was AWESOME! Loved this story - very different but left me feeling good and hopeful.

    14. Dreamer80

I really liked the book. The kids' part was really heartbreaking but I loved how the writer described everything. Philip and Vance are a lovely couple and when Sam married them I was so aw

It's late, late, late, but I had to finish this. What a heartbreakingly wonderful, sad, romantic, uplifting story.

    16. Fleur

Hmm. did not finish. Just didn't keep me interested. Dragged and to much focus on things that really didn't add value to the story.
