Clever, in parts well-written, but spoiled by convenient coincidences. The story is told in the first person by Lily, or Lil, or Lillian. The first two are common variations on the given name: add “little lady” and “sweets” and it’s confusing. Daddy, who makes his appearance quite late, calls her “sweets”: the rest are, as often as not, the way refers to herself, and have no reference to any of the other people in her life. There are a lot of other people in Lily’s life, and far to [...]

This review is of “Anatomy of an Affair-Part 1” by Melissa Martineau Alexander. The Story: The book is a first-person accounting of the life of a woman, Lillian “Lily” Wentworth, and how she marries a Boston police officer, Nicholas Costas, and later has an affair with his friend, Kyle O’Reilly. Later, Lily has another affair with an old friend, Nigel “NJ” Bennings, Jr a man who has loved Lily for many years. Upside: This is a very intense book. Lily and Kyle are both really human, [...]

“Anatomy Of An Affair: Part I," by Melissa Martineau Alexander, is a novel that explores the development of a woman’s affair with her husband’s best friend. The protagonist, Lily, is a thirty-something who has it all – a beautiful daughter, a loving husband, a great job – yet has an affair. Rather than sweep the whole thing under the rug, she dissects the development of the affair, from first meeting her lover to their intimacy. One of the things I love about this book is how the narrat [...]

The book is a first person account by a character that seemingly had it all, a great upbringing, decent career, loving family etc but then throws all this into turmoil by cheating on her husband. I really liked the first person style as helps you really get into the mind of, in this case, the adulterer as she tries to get to the bottom of why she has done, what she has done. The story pulls no punches as, quite refreshingly, she admits her mistakes and takes full responsibility for her actions. A [...]

Clever and well-written, this follows Lily, a woman who, on the surface, has it all - career, family, money, Lily really does have everything. Then, she inexplicably cheats on her husband. The truly refreshing aspect of this story is that no fingers are pointed, Lily doesn't seek to blame others for her indiscretions. She takes responsibility for her own actions, and painstakingly tries to solve the mystery of why she did what she did. A sequel is definitely in order. Highly recommended.

WOW!!!!!!!I just finished the last page of this book and all I can say is, WOW!!!!!, I didn't see that coming!!!!! Anyway, I really enjoyed this book. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great romantic, suspense novel (with a cliffhanger, depending on how you look at it). Hence the four stars. I would love to know what a 2nd book would be like

Alexander's book is fiction, but the depth of feeling and the first-person format made Anatomy of an Affair feel like you were reading a personal diary. I wanted to shout at the main character to make her stop and look before she slid into the decisions that warped her life. I'm looking forward to book 2; I want to see her brokenness heal.
