One of the reasons that retellings of literary works such as Pride and Prejudice are so successful, is the quality and clarity of the original story remains constant (Sargeant, 2013). Prima facie, the diaries are a vlog (video blog) adaptation (Pemberley Digital, 2013) of Pride and Prejudice with interactive social media and a book (Su, Noble, Rorick, & Austen, 2014) thrown in for good measure. The interactive elements of the Lizzie Bennet diaries include: a twitter account and feed; Faceboo [...]

This immersive cross platform attempt to update Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice has been very successful. The first episode aired (via YouTube) In April 2012, and ran 100 episodes twice a week, until March 2013. Its success was partly due to its subject matter, partly the way it was presented, and partly due to its ability to engage and immerse its viewers so completely (Simpson, 2013). The co-producers, Bernie Su and Hank Green are both well-known You Tubers, so there was already a pre-ex [...]

The Lizzie Bennet diaries is an Emmy award winning modernised adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and is an example of transmedia literature. Jenkins (2013, August 28) describes a transmedia story as “the integration of entertainment experiences across a range of media platforms”. The Lizzie Bennet diaries is told through a series of vlogs (video blog), tweets via Twitter and images via Tumblr. It can be accessed at lizziebennet or via youtube and other social medias tools like Twitter and Tum [...]

This is an excellent update of a Jane Austen classic. I loved the way they integrated the weblog videos with the e-book. It made it an interactive experience that fit so well with the story. I would have enjoyed just one or the other, but I loved the way that the book expanded on the videos, and vice versa.

What Bernie Su with not only The LDB, but also Emma Approved across multiple platforms is completely ground breaking and immersive. Just when you are hooked and want more, there it is!!! The team at Pemberley Digital is definitely one to keep an eye on when it comes to creative story telling!

I actually don't know why this is on , since this isn't a book, but a webseries. (That's also why I'm not putting it on the favourites shelf). Yet, I love that I can give it five stars here and OH GOD GO WATCH IT.
