Full disclosure: I contributed an unpaid review to Blood & Tacos #3.To quote the movie Robocop, “I’d buy that for a dollar!”Johnny Shaw and company have done another edition of their quarterly magazine that both parodies and pays tribute to the action adventure stories of the ’70s and ’80s that starred ass kicking heroes who usually sported mustaches. Featuring stories by guys with hilarious bios that were ’discovered’ by other authors along with reviews from books of that type [...]

The stories are not quite as funny as the first go 'round; the characters are not quite as memorable - BUT - still a collection well worth reading and enjoying.Burn In, "discovered" by Frank Lanerd, is a real standout. Dark and brooding, it treads boldly and well into Andrew Vachss territory. As with Blood & Tacos # 1, I was once again sent scurrying to find out what else these guys have written. I'm ready and waiting for #3.

Like a cheap shot to the nether regions, these stories pack a sucker punch that’ll turn your mo’ upside down and smear that seersucker suit with gooey pulp goodness. The second adventure men’s magazine aptly titled BLOOD AND TACOS is loaded with some of my favourite authors in Ray Banks (INSIDE STRAIGHT), Andrew Nette (GHOST MONEY), and Josh Stallings (OUT THERE BAD) amongst others equally good at spreading the love and war across the cheesy and remarkably dodgy characters that populate th [...]

The first one was a little better than this one as it was a bit more tongue-in-cheek. The Vachss homage was too close to the real thing, which certainly is not my idea of a fun read. Still this is overall amusing collection and hopefully more issues will come out.

I've learned to love this series. It parodies the silly action genre novels of he seventies perfectly. Some might get offended by the awful racial and gender stereotypes portrayed, but I think that's the point. It's satire.

First question: does the chick on the cover appear in the book? The first story comes closest. The following stories are also packed with various Brock Samson types, Brock Landers types, it's a blood-splattered Brock-fest. Blood & Tacos is the Grindhouse of short fiction, recreating 1970s men's adventure fiction when hack writers turned out a cheezy-titled paperback every week under at least four pseudonyms and the target audience was outlaw bikers. The best of this issue is more deranged fu [...]

Fantastic noir, like totally! All good writers and all great stories. It would be nice if Johnny Shaw would put out another novel, I'll just have to wait.
