Capitol Offense (Texas Heroines in Peril) by Cheryl Bolen is a quick read with an intriguing plot which moves along at a fast pace. Lacey Blair accidentally discovers that her boss, Lt. Governor of Texas, Jim Chambers, has illegally diverted millions of dollars of state funds. As her investigation progresses, she becomes a target. She realizes that Jim Chambers has ordered the assassination of several people and she is next on their list. For help, Lacey contacts Mike, a former lover and friend. [...]

Slightly corny story that had some seriously campy moments. The big plan to catch the bad guys was really terrible and destined to fail. I couldn't believe two street smart people could be so silly. But it was still kinda cute. *shrugs*

Another quickie. Lacy Blair discovers her boss is not the clean, honest politician she thought he was and is now on the run for her life. She reaches out to an old boyfriend, Mike. It had great potential and, for the length, it really wasn't bad. Lots of action and suspense to keep me glued to the story 'til the end. But it's short and not enough time to really develop the romance. Supposedly, these two fell in love years before but Anyway, it has the reunion or together again theme.

This is a short story that I read in a couple of hours. I like political intrigue as I firmly believe that this type of corruption is prevalent in our nation's Capitol. Of course it was a quick telling of events and a pretty ordinary ending, kill all the bad guys. That said it was a good Sunday afternoon read. I am going to try another book by Cheryl Bolen and see if it has more substance.

I want to say more of a 2.5. I found the suspense rather lacking. It wasn't very fast paced. The romance was definitely secondary. It seemed that Lacy sort of fell into the mystery. It was missing something for me.

Got this as a free NOOK book and enjoyed it. There was a lot of political stuff but it added to the intrigue of the story. It definitely kept me on the edge of my seatanks for the great read and I plan to read more of the series

116pgs, who can she trust, he gets killed, tells fbi, discovers fraudulant activity with boss, texas heroines in peril

this story had so much potential, but it just fell a little flat for me. somehow it seemed contrived and a bit sophomoric, with no true suspense, and the romance seemed forced and off to me as well.
