This book takes place in the 14th century and the English are attacking the Scottish borders. The flair of the Scottish language was missing to the point that I felt like I was in England. The 14th century and we are talking about "hand railings" to go up the stairs and dressing to go out into the snow as though it were the modern day. I usually read romance from the Highlander perspective. A great story but I had a strong feeling of something missing as I read. I found it to lack depth of emoti [...]

Keeping in mind that with a short story, the characters, their relationship as well as any backround have to evolve rather quickly, I think the author did a wonderful job at pacing the story. The heroine was very likable, strong and knew what she wanted (what a refreshing change) and while I liked the hero as well, I thought the conflict in which he disappeared for 5 years was a bit shallow. My first read by Ms Russell and was not disappointed

Why is it that you read the first book in a series, like it, and then the quality declines in the rest of the series?

This novella was intriguing and entertaining. Great plot and character development. I have to agree with other reviewers in that it read more like a contemporary novella in language than a 14th century Scottish tale. I would have expected more of the Scottish flavor with words like "verra", "nae", "lass", "lad", "dinnae", etc. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the story of Elizabeth and Lucius' romance!

4**** A very good historical romance. The new Earl of Carrick is home to assume his responsibilities. One of which is marriage to the girl who was one of the reasons he left ,to spend years with the knights Templar. His uncle has been working behind the scenes to claim the title for himself.Plenty of action and adventure in this story. I would have liked it to be a longer.

This is an incredibly well written story that "feels" a bit more contemporary than its 14th century setting. Yet the characters and the harsh environs were believable and the level of suspense, both sexual and otherwise added that great "I can't put it down" ingredient. The real complaint I have is that its over far too quickly. Time to read another in the series.

entertaining worth readingLove Sassy women in story lines. Need more strong willed women in highlander character with mine of there own. Good attempted on G. Russel on Elizabeth character well done.

All I can say is life is too short and there are too many GOOD books to read for me to waste any more time on this story.

It was a decent story but very short. I'm not that fast of a reader and I finished it in three hours.

Considering the shortness of the story, only 65 pages, I think it was well paced, characters were well developed and it was a good read for what it was.

Meh. Thin on plot and character development. Then again I choose books like this sort of as a sorbet between other books of more depth so it was still somewhat enjoyable.

Satisfying short read where a couple have a second chance at finding happiness. The historical setting is very well done.
